Abstract

Seventeen clones of elephant-grass were evaluated in a randomized block experimental design using split-plots, with 4 replications, from February/95 to December/97, resulting in 12 cuts (as environments), in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The aim of this study was to obtain estimates of genetic parameters and repeatability coefficients of the following variables: dry matter production (DMP), height (H), stem diameter (SD) and number of tillers per meter (TN). The genotypic determination coefficient (H²) values varied from 33,49% (DMP) to 84,34% (H). Nine, five, three and two measures for the traits DMP, H, SD and TN, respectively, were enough to predict the real value of genotypes, for a coefficient of determination of 80%

Possui graduação em Agronomia pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa (1988), mestrado em Genética e Melhoramento pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa (1992) e doutorado em Produção Vegetal pela Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro - UENF (2003). Atualmente é Professor Associado da área de Experimentação Agropecuária do Centro de Ciências e Tecnologias Agropecuárias da UENF. Tem experiência na área de Agronomia, com ênfase em Genética e Melhoramento de Plantas, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Melhoramento de plantas forrageiras, em especial capim-elefante, Modelos Estatísticos e Marcadores de DNA Currículo Lattes
