Abstract

Aiming to contribute with the culture of dourado, Salminus brasiliensis, four ages of transference from the hatchery to the external tanks were tested: immediately after opening the mouth; 2, 4 and 6 days after this event. Also, the feeding of the larvae in the external tanks was evaluated. In the indoor culture, the survival was similar among the treatments, with average values of 63.6±15.5%. In the fry rearing phase, the survival and the biomass of the treatments with 4 and 6 days of hatchery were similar. However, they were higher than the others treatments. It was observed the larvae preference for cladocerans consumption concerning the other zooplankton groups. Therefore, it can be concluded that the storage of dourado larvae to external tanks must be done after a minimum period of four days in lead hatchery under controlled conditions
