Analysis of Survival Time and Prognostic Factors for Death in Hypertension Patients: A Case Study
Abstract
Hypertension is a major concern for the Ethiopian people since it is a frequent and potentially fatal public health issue. The purpose of this research is to determine the overall survival rate of hypertension patients treated at Nekemte Specialist Hospital by analyzing medical data from 2019–2023. Three models were used to examine the data: the Kaplan-Meier estimate, the Cox proportional hazards model, and the Weibull regression model. Numerous factors, including a patient's age, smoking history, alcohol use, lack of physical activity, obesity, diabetes, and a family history of hypertension, may significantly impact their prognosis. Additionally, the research discovered that the risk of mortality for those with high blood pressure increased during the course of the follow-up period (0 to ). When it came to estimating the distribution of deaths and life expectancy in this patient population, the Weibull regression model performed the best.
