Abstract

The article has the main objective to verify the development process of the chemical industry, of pharmaceutical products and plastic material in the metropolitan region of Londrina, in particular since the year of 1992. Were used two main indicators: the number of establishments and the persons employed according to IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) classification of industries and subsectors and the more detailed classification of the CNAE (National Classification of Economic Activities). Data were collected in the RAIS (Annual Social Information Report) of the Ministry of Labor and Employment. The conclusion is this branch of industry showed significant growth since the last eighteen years in the region and also is concentrated spatially (in the city of Londrina and the cities of their surroundings), and concentrated in a few great companies. Another feature is the centralization of capital which meant acquisitions and mergers of capital in most major industries.
