<b>Compliance with treatment of hypertensive patients at basic health services</b> - doi: 10.4025/cienccuidsaude.v11i3.16511

Abstract

This exploratory and descriptive study aimed to verify the compliance to non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment of hypertensive patients in a unit of Family Health Strategy program in the city of Cuiabá-MT- Brazil. Fifty-four users with arterial systemic hypertension took part in the study. They were mostly female, black, between 35 and 65 years of age, some illiterate, and some with four years or less of study and with a job away from home. Data was collected by means of interviews using a questionnaire and received descriptive treatment. The results showed that among the 54 users surveyed, none of them fully obeys the antihypertensive treatment, 50% adhere partially and 50% does not adhere. The non-pharmacological measure that the users of both groups less adopt is regular physical activity, followed by quitting smoking, controlling stress and salt reducing. More than a third of users surveyed are unable to take medications as prescribed by the doctor. The challenges that health professionals must face in order to improve the compliance with the treatment and help those who, even with difficulty, partially adhere, are related to how to treat them and their families.
