A LABUTA SEM CIRANDA: CRIANÇAS POBRES E TRABALHO EM MARIANA (1850-1900)
Resumo
Este texto consiste em apresentar os resultados da nossa investigação sobre a utilização da criança como mão-de-obra na localidade de Mariana, Minas gerais, na segunda metade dos anos oitocentos. O período focado consiste num momento de transição do sistema escravista para o sistema livre de trabalho. Entre os projetos da transição estava o que idealizava o emprego da mão-de obra nacional, especialmente a das crianças, que poderiam ser educadas desde cedo para o trabalho. Entre os fatores de inserção da criança no mundo do trabalho estão a orfandade e as dificuldades de sobrevivência decorrente da pobreza. Trabalhamos com registros de tutela, processos-crime e o recenseamento de 1872. Abstract. The employment of children as laborers in Mariana MG Brazil in the second half of 19th century is provided. The period represents a transition from the slave system to a free labor system. Among the transition projects extant at the time there was one that dealt with the employment of labor, especially that of children, so that the latter could be educated early for a life of labor. The factors that inserted children within the labor world may be associated to orphanhood and survival due to extreme poverty. Tutelage records, criminal files and the 1872 census were employed in the research.Downloads
