AFIRMAÇÃO DA IDENTIDADE ÉTNICO-RACIAL E DESENVOLVIMENTO SOCIAL:
RELAÇÕES IMBRICADAS
Abstract
This article discusses how the positive construction of the ethno-racial identity of the Black population can contribute to Brazil's social development. Thus, the objective is to analyze how the appreciation of the Afro-Brazilian population can contribute to the country's development. To achieve this objective, studies and theoretical discussions were conducted in the areas of human development, ethno-racial relations, identities, and differences. The study is based on authors such as Moore (2005), Souza (2005), and Mbembe (2014). The study showed that slavery and its legacies reverberate to this day and are factors that impede the country's progress. Furthermore, the high illiteracy rate, particularly among the Afro-Brazilian population—due to the exclusion this group suffers from all social spheres, including education, due to racism—also contributes to this scenario of backwardness. It is concluded that the ease, affirmation, and appreciation of the history and culture of Black people contribute to Brazil's development in all aspects.
