RECONHECIMENTO E AVALIAÇÃO DA DOR EM PACIENTES ONCOLÓGICOS – REVISÃO DE LITERATURA
Resumo
As neoplasias acometem cada vez mais os animais domésticos. Baseado em estudos da medicina humana, sabe-se que a dor ocorre em até 75% dos pacientes que apresentam a doença em estágio avançado, fase esta em que a maioria dos pacientes veterinários iniciam o tratamento. A dor causa alterações fisiológicas significativas e prejudiciais ao animal, contudo, para o tratamento adequado, primeiramente é preciso o seu reconhecimento. A negligência em reconhecer a dor resulta em subtratamento ou inexistência de tratamento. Esta revisão de literatura tem como objetivo auxiliar o clínico a encontrar métodos de reconhecimento e avaliação da dor em pacientes com neoplasia. Os principais métodos envolvem questionários de qualidade de vida e escalas de dor, como Canine Brief Pain Inventory, Glasgow University Veterinary School Questionnaire e Helsinki Chronic Pain Index, desenvolvidos para pacientes com dor crônica. No entanto, ainda se carecem estudos clínicos para o adequado reconhecimento da dor crônica, especialmente a relacionada ao câncer.
