BIOLOGIA E MANEJO NUTRICIONAL DE TAMANDUÁS DAS ESPÉCIES Myrmecophaga tridactyla E Tamandua tetradactyl a MANTIDOS EM CATIVEIRO: REVISÃO.
Resumo
A manutenção de tamanduás em cativeiro é dificultada devido às peculiaridades desses animais. Em seu habitat natural, formigas e cupins fazem parte de sua dieta. Mimetizar a alimentação natural desses animais em cativeiro desafia as instituições que os mantêm. O alimento fornecido atualmente para tamanduás cativos, mirim e bandeira, é uma formulação pastosa contendo leite de baixa lactose, ovos, carne, couve, ração para gatos triturada e complexos vitamínicos, sofrendo alterações dos ingredientes utilizados de acordo com o local em que é preparada. Tendo em vista que há raros relatos na literatura nacional sobre o manejo nutricional de tamanduás-bandeira (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) e tamanduás-mirim (Tamandua tetradactyla), considerando que o tamanduá-bandeira está atualmente em situação vulnerável na natureza e o tamanduá-mirim está em situação vulnerável em alguns locais, fazendo-se necessário a manutenção dessas espécies em cativeiro para a preservação das espécies, pretende-se realizar levantamento bibliográfico sobre a biologia e o manejo de tamanduás mantidos em cativeiro.
