Abstract

The discussion about the factors that can influence the quality of life (QL) of Physical Education teachers is important in the current scenario of accelerated social transformations that reflect in the educational context. With the objective to verify and relate quality of life (QL) and sociodemographic characteristics, questionnaires of socio-demographic data and quality of life (Whoqol-bref) were applied to 298 teachers of Physical Education in Basic Education in the region of Grande Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. The Chi-square, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal Wallis tests, with post hoc Dunn (p <0.05) were used in the data treatment. Physical Education teachers presented regular scores in the general QL, higher values in the social relations domain and lower in the physical domain. Characteristics such as gender, vital cycles, length of service in the network, work shift, population number and the Human Development Index of the municipalities were associated with general QL and the physical, psychological and environmental domains. It is concluded that QL is associated with the socio-demographic characteristics of Physical Education teachers and that these should be taken into consideration in educational planning and management in basic education.
