Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the influence of management on common bean in Oxisol. The research began in 1997 and the yield evaluation was carried out in the winter of 2002. The experimental design was randomized blocks with split split-plot design. The treatments were constituted by the combination of five cover plants, two soil tillages and three crop successions. It was concluded that cover plants, after five years, did not influence the common bean; the 100-grain weight of bean was higher in conventional tillage, but the yield did not show any difference between the tillages; in conventional tillage, cotton crop sucession in the first two years provided larger common bean weigth and yield; in the notillage, the successions with cotton and soybean in the first two years resulted in larger common bean yeld.

Bolsista de Produtividade, possui graduação em Agronomia pela Universidade Federal da Paraíba (1982), mestrado em Solos pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1986) e doutorado em Agronomia (Solos e Nutrição de Plantas) pela Universidade de São Paulo (1992). Atualmente é professor Livre Docente da Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP). Tem experiência na área de Agronomia, com ênfase em Física do Solo, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: manejo do solo, propriedades físicas do solo, manejo e conservação do solo, preparo do solo e adubação verde.
