Diatraea saccharallis (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) eggs as food to Chrysoperla raimundoi (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) larvae - DOI: 10.4025/actasciagron.v27i4.1346
Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different diets on the post-embryonic development of this species in laboratory. Newly hatched larvae were individualized in glass tubes and fed with Sitotroga cereallella (Oliver) or Diatraea saccharallis (Fabricius). The study includes an evaluation of the larvae duration, weight and viability in each instar, the duration, weight and viability of the pupa and pre-pupa stages and the duration of the biological cycle. Larvae on the first instar, fed with D. saccharallis eggs, showed a significant reduction in the corporal weight (0.4 mg) in relation to the larvae fed with S. cereallella (0.5 mg). The duration of the post-embryonic period of the insects fed with D. saccharallis eggs increased (20.1 days) in relation to that fed with S. cereallella (19.3 days) eggs. There was no effect of the food provided on the other parameters evaluated. D. saccharallis eggs can thus be used to feed C. raimundoiDownloads
