Abstract
Aiming to study plant populations behavior and levels of fertilization and liming most adequate to the Iapar 81 bean crop, a field experiment was conducted in Ponta Grossa–PR, in the 2000/2001 summer sowing season. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replicates and 4 x 4 factorial arrangement, involving four plant populations (100, 200, 300 and 400 thousand plants ha-1) and four fertilization and liming levels (0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 doses, being 1,0 corresponding to IAPAR recommendation). The plant population increase reduced linearly the grain number per plant and pods number per plant; in spite of that, it caused an increase in grain yield up to 303 thousand plants ha-1, causing reduction in higher populations. The increase of the fertilization and liming levels raised linearly plant height and the number of pods per plant, but it was not enough to raise grain yield, this parameter was limited by severe defoliation, caused by angular leaf spot and excess of rains in the final stages of the vegetative cycleDownloads
