Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain the yield capacity and the income of yam clones conducted in creeping culture, Dystrorthox Soil and clayish texture, from September 4th 2001 to July 12nd 2002, using the apex or the base of rhizomes as cuttings. The experiment was carried out at a vegetable garden of 4ª Brigada de Cavalaria Mecanizada “Brigada Guaicurus”. Mimoso, Flórida, Pezão, Caramujo and Roxo yam clones were studied, as well as the addition ways of semi-decomposed poultry bed - CFC, in planting furrow and in hole, to the soil, in dose of 10.0 t ha-1, arranged as 5 x 3 factorial scheme in a randomized block design with three replications. Harvest was done 240 days after planting, when fresh mass yield of aerial parts (branches + leaves) and rhizomes were evaluated. The income was also evaluated. Evaluated characters were not influenced by clones/addition ways of CFC to the soil interaction, neither by addition ways of CFC to the soil, but they differed significantly among clones. The highest yield of aerial part was from Roxo clone (6.84 t ha-1) and the rhizome one was from Mimoso (37.10 t ha-1), and Pezão was the least productive (4.65 t ha-1 of aerial part and 20.38 t ha-1 of rhizomes). CFC cost was greater when added to soil in total area, representing an increase of 4.15 and 13.85 times in relation to furrow and hole addition, respectively. To consider rhizome yield and CFC costs, addition of CFC in hole could increase net income in 7.37% and 14.45% in relation to addition in total area and in furrow, respectively.
