Abstract

The distribution of individual seed biomass were verified in nine populations of hybrids corn seeds available in the market. Each data set was fit to the Normal, Lognormal, Gumbel and Weibull distributions. The value of the log likelihood was used as the goodness of fit criteria with the best fit having the largest value. Four data set were fit to the Normal and five to the Lognormal distribution. The lightest individual seed 0,17g and the heaviest had 0,45g. The range of the biomass weight of one hundred seeds varied between 24,17g and 35,61g. The correlation between the sum of one hundred individual seed biomass and the total weight of one hundred seeds was 0.995. We suggest how seed classification must have an influence in these results
