Abstract

The aim of this work was to test the use of 1-WireTM nets for monitoring and controlling grain aeration systems. The 1-WireTM technology is a new remote sensing approach that consists of a bus master with controlling software, two or three cables with associated connectors and 1- WireTM devices, such as sensors and electronic switches. About 2200 hours of data were collected and the studied system consisted of a cylindrical steel bin with 2.6 m of diameter and cylinder height of 2.0 m, filled with corn. The aeration system operated under automatic control managed by software written in Java. Results showed that this is an efficient technology for monitoring and controlling grain aeration systems, as the software and the network can be easily reconfigured in an attempt to better adequate to different agricultural applications and to different storage structures.
