Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate chemical and physical properties alterations of a distrophic Red Latosol, originally under savanna vegetation, submitted to the continuous cultivation of Pinus and annual crop. The treatments were constituted of three types of soil management as natural savanna, continuous cultivation with Pinus reforestation and annual crops in no-tillage system, evaluated at 0 – 40 cm depht. In no-tillage system, greater content of fine sand occurred. The total clay content increased and the flocculation degree diminished with the depht of sampling in all managemet systems. No-tillage presented the best results as neutralization of the soil acidity. However, the organic substance in the superficial layer decreased. The reforestation with Pinus, when compared to savanna had its organic matter increased as well as the acidity especially in the superficial layer with no alteration in the subsurface layers. The highest concentrations of B and Mn in the soil were observed in savanna vegetation. Notillage system presented higher concentrations of Zn and Cu, besides P and K. Reforestations and savanna vegetation showed Fe concentration. No-tillage provided a greater accumulation Ca except for the superficial layer, where it was similar to savanna vegetation. In Pinus, there was a reduction of K content in the soil when compared to savanna vegetation, characterizing K drainage power as well as Mg in reforestation, especially in the superficial layer of the soil.
