Abstract

The improvement in soil condition associated with nitrogen supply is very important to increase crop yield. The research was carried in Selviria county, state of Mato Grossso do Sul, Brazil. A randomized block design was with treatments consisting of a combination of soil management (heavy disk + leveling disk, moldboard plow + leveling disk, and no-till) and nitrogen application time (100 kg ha-1) at sowing and/or side-dressed at the 6-7 leaves stage, using urea as source, with 4 replications. Nitrogen influenced grain yield with increment of 29.4% (2001/02) and 47.4% (2002/03) in relation to control. There was no significant difference among the different periods of nitrogen application. The treatments produced higher yield of corn in relation to soil management using plowing disk or moldboard plow.
