Extraction of K+ and Na+ by porous ceramic cups
Abstract
To evaluate the efficiency of extraction of solutions containing known amounts of potassium and sodium, porous ceramic cups were used as samplers. Solutions with increasing, decreasing and random amounts of K+ and Na+ were tested and the concentration of both cations inside and outside the samplers were analyzed. Three types of porous ceramic cups were tested and the results indicated that they reacted differently in relation to the K+ and Na+ solutions. One of them presented high adsorption capacity for the cations, therefore, not being recommended for dynamic studies of these ions. There were no differences in the behavior of the K+ and Na+ cations. The extraction of the soil solution, using porous ceramic cup samplers, needs previous evaluation under controlled conditions to determine the exactness and precision of the resultsDownloads
