Abstract

In the present study, global solar radiation capture efficiency by a canopy of Eucalyptus grandis, clone M3-254-33, was determined under different planting densities throughout seven and eight year cycles. By means of assessing the capture efficiency values, it was possible to propose a model to estimate the biomass production of boles in a forestry community. The obtained equations, which were tested experimentally, showed high coefficients of determination, promoting a high accuracy at the estimation of a given response variable. The model was elaborated with data collected in a trial carried out by Ripasa S/A at a forestry station in Ibiti, State of Paraná, Brazil (24o09’S, 49o09’W Gr, 900m) throughout a period of annual average precipitation (1300mm.year-1) that did not inhibit the expression of crop potential productivity at the site under study, given the good distribution of rainfalls throughout the year. The proposed model has a general characteristic, being however valid its utilization at any site as long as its adjustment coefficients might be determined under specific conditions of genotype, climate, soil and fertility
