Abstract

Morphometric characteristics and growth of males and females of “cachara”, Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum (Pimelodidae), were studied. Fishes were distributed in four ponds (600m2), at the rate of 1fish/2m2. Total weight (g), total length (cm), standard length (cm), head length (cm), body height (cm) were obtained bimonthly, from January/99 to January/01, from 5% of each pond population. One hundred thirty two males and two hundred forty eight females were analyzed showing an average final weight of 1,233.0g and 2,266.0g, respectively. The Lt/Wt relationship showed high correlation, with b values slightly above 3, where no sexual dimorphism was observed. The relationship Lt /Ls and Lt /Hl presented linear tendency with high correlation. For Lt /HC, the females b values were higher than males. There were no differences between the sexes for those variables. Condition factor remained relatively constant without showing seasonal fluctuation.

Possui graduação em Biologia pela Universidade de Guarulhos (1977), mestrado em Ciências Biológicas (Zoologia) pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1991) e doutorado em Ecologia e Recursos Naturais pela Universidade Federal de São Carlos (1998). Atualmente é pesquisador cientifico nivel VI do Instituto de Pesca, professor doutor pesquisador da Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho e chefia Assistente técnico do Instituto de Pesca - APTA e credenciada na pós-graduação em Aquicultura e Pesca do IPesca-APTA, SP. Tem experiência na área de Ecologia, com ênfase em Reprodução de Peixes, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: biologia reprodutiva, fisiologia da reprodução, ciclo reprodutivo, comportamento reprodutivo e sistemas de criação (viveiros escavados e tanques-rede). Vem pesquisando as seguintes espécies de peixes: Piaractus mesopotamicus, Brycon cephalus, Rhamdia quelen, Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum, P. corruscans e O. niloticus. Mais recentemente, vem atuando com peixes ornamentais como Apistogrammma cacautoides Currículo Lattes
