Focus and Scope

The journal publishes original articles in all areas of Biological Sciences, including anatomy, bacteriology, molecular biology, biochemistry, botany, cytology and cell biology, animal behavior, ecology, limnology, embryology, and histology, morpho-physiology, genetics, microbiology, parasitology and zoology. 

Editorial Policy

The policy of the Editorial Board of Acta Scientiarum. Biological Sciences comprises the publication of original articles that may significantly have an impact on Biological Sciences field of knowledge. Original scientific articles that report new findings and propose hypotheses regarding natural phenomena will be published. Publication of articles depends on the approval of the Editorial Board, based on peer reviews. 

Aims

To establish the public inscription of knowledge and its preservation; To publish results of research comprising ideas and new scientific suggestions; To publicize worldwide information and knowledge produced by the scientific community; To speech the process of scientific communication in Biology.

Peer Review Process

Articles will be peer reviewed according to the scientific area of research hailing from higher and research institutes, in Brazil or abroad, acknowledged for their scientific production. After the necessary corrections and possible suggestions, the paper shall be accepted if two peers give a favorable statement; the article will be rejected if two peer reviews are unfavorable. Ties will be solved by the local Editorial Board.

Guidelines for evaluation:

1. Is the article’s theme scientifically relevant for publication in the journal?
2. Is the article original?
3. Does the title show with sufficient clearness the contents of the article?
4. Are the article’s introduction, organization and the length satisfactory?
5. Does the introduction review the theme and explains the aim of the research?
6. Is the section Materials and Methods  sufficiently clear for reproduction?
7. Is discussion pertinent and satisfactory?
8. Data justify the interpretation given?
9. Is there any need to add some items to make the article more interesting?
10. Is there any need to reduce or eliminate any item from the article?
11. Are the illustrations and tables necessary and pertinent?
12. Are figures illustrating and of good quality for reproduction?
13. Are the Keywords proper to the article?
14. Does the Abstract give an adequate view of the research?
15. Are references adequate and necessary?
16. Are references place according to the journal’s norms?
17. Are referenced authors in the text also cited in the references?
18. Did you write any remarks on the manuscript?
19. Ethical and Biosafety Aspects: Does the manuscript involve experimentation with humans, animals or biosafety in order to require analysis of its ethical implications? Yes (  ) No (  ). If so, does the article adequately address the ethical or biosecurity aspects involved? Yes (  ) No (  ).
20. Your opinion with regard to the publication of the article:
Unfavorable (reject)
Favorable (the article is accepted for publication)
Favorable, if modifications suggested are undertaken (corrections are mandatory). Suggestions may be provided under Evaluation.

Publication Frequency

Acta Scientiarum. Biological Sciences, ISSN 1679-9283 (papel) and ISSN 1807-863X (on-line), is published by the Maringá State University, in modality the continuous publication.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
