<b>Reproductive structures of <em>Peperomia parnassifolia</em> Miq. (Piperaceae)</b> - DOI: 10.4025/actascibiolsci.v30i1.1401
Abstract
Peperomia parnassifolia Miq. is a herbaceous species that occurs in forest remnants in Maringá, Brazil, among other places. The stem and reproductive organs of this species are the objects of the present study. Samples of botanical material (fresh or fixed in FAA 50/FPA 50) were cut using a rotation microtome, in accordance with usual practice. The spike axis features a polystelic structure. Bracts are peltate with a homogeneous mesophyll. The gynoecium is monocarpous, has a stigma with two lobes, solid style, ovary with simple structure and an atropous, crassinucellate and unitegmic ovule. The anther wall consists of epidermis, endothecium, one middle layer and a uninucleate secretory tapetum. The fruit is a berry and its seed is perispermic.
