Abstract

This research discusses growth parameters and mortality of Leporinus friderici in the Volta Grande dam, Grande river, states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, Brazil. Growth parameters have been estimated by the Von Bertalanffy Growth Curve, where Loo = 49.5 cm, K = 0.304 year^-1 and to = -0.48 year. The survival rate (S) and its variance were estimated from a single catch curve in which precise age is known. After estimating the survival rate, the instantaneous rate of total mortality was calculated by Z = -ln S = 0.56 year^-1. The most abundant year class was 1 to 1.9 year old

Francisco Manoel de Souza Braga, Unesp

Possui graduação em História Natural pela Faculdade de Filosofia Ciências e Letras de Rio Claro (Instituto Isolado) (1973), mestrado em Oceanografia (Oceanografia Biológica) pela Universidade de São Paulo (1978) e doutorado em Oceanografia (Oceanografia Biológica) pela Universidade de São Paulo (1982). Em 1995 prestou concurso para professor livre-docente, tornando-se professor adjunto e em 2005 tornou-se professor titular por concurso pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho. Tem experiência em biologia pesqueira de peixes marinhos e continentais e atualmente tem trabalhado em biologia populacional e ecologia de peixes de riachos.
