Abstract

HLA molecules or antigens are cellular surface glycoproteins that are involved in the regulation of immune reaction. The HLA complex includes the most polymorphic genes in human. As in the last years we observed a large increase in the transfusions therapy, due the use of the chemotherapeutic agents and the safety of the procedure, the alloimunization has been subject of study. The aim of this work was to revise basic aspects of the system HLA and its role in the transfusion therapy. In order to achieve it, immunological factors involved in the alloimunization and the immunomodulation were approached, emphasizing platelet transfusion therapy in refractory patient, the development of the graft-versus- host disease, the influence of the allossensibilization in the transplants and the importance of the allogenic transfusion in the recurrent miscarriage
