The symbolic dimension of postmodernist architecture on the Maringá-PR urban space: reflections of a study of case

Abstract

This work aims to point out the symbolic character involving some post-modernistarchitectural objects in the city of Maringá. For this, we sought to draw a parallel between the conditions in contemporary architectural design of the city, as well as the prevailingdiscourse of geography characterized by plural approaches of urban space. We usedsome ideas proposed by Baudrillard (1995) about the signs of consumption that aim atsocial distinction, as well as some discussions Claval (2011), Tuan (1980) and D'AlessioFerrara (1999) to justify the plurality in the paradigmatic discussions of geography, especially on the urban space. Through a qualitative questionnaire, we attempted toextract the perceptual characteristics of the individuals on the context and the insertion of some buildings in central districts, articulating the sensations perceived in the light of theGestalt. It is concluded that the main objective of these objects - to differentiate the landscape - was partially achieved, however, resulted in similar associations of ideasinterviewed.
