Abstract

Lack of vegetation coverage, the introduction of temporary farming and extensive urban buildings on drainage sources have a great degradation effect on water systems. To evaluate the anthropogenic influence on water resources, search, in this work was to determine the concentrations of metals from the drainage basin of the Pinhalzinho Second stream, in Umuarama - PR. Four sampling sites within the basin were picked so that Cu, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cr, Pb, Cd, As, Se and Zn concentration could be assessed. A composite sample was collected from each point around 2.5 L. Samples were collected periodically so that all the seasons of the year and the different types of climates could be analyzed. Concentrations of metals in water were determined by Flame Atomic Absorption. Partial results show high Fe and Mn rates above those allowed by CONAMA decree 357/2005. High concentrations may probably have been caused by human activities characteristic of soil.
