The contributions of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Program to the (re)production of urban space in small towns in the Brazilian semiarid region
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the contributions of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Program (MCMVP) to the (re)production of urban space in small cities in the Brazilian semiarid region. In order to do so, the Santo Expedito and Bartolomeu housing complexes, in the city of Venha-Ver, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, were adopted as a spatial clipping. The land tenure aspects, the conditions of the housing units and the satisfaction of the beneficiaries were considered, through the application of questionnaires, document analysis and secondary data. The housing complexes studied are characterized by land irregularities, resulting from the inactivity of the municipal government in relation to registry actions; occurrences of abandonment and invasions of properties, factors that contribute to legal uncertainty and socio-spatial segregation. As for the conditions of the housing units, it is concluded that, very commonly, they do not match the reality of the beneficiary families, which leads to reforms to adapt the original structure. Regarding environmental comfort, the greatest weaknesses were high temperature and the presence of humidity, the latter being recurrent in the rainy season. Even in the face of these conditions, the majority of the population demonstrates satisfaction with the residences and housing complexes. Dissatisfied residents associate this condition with structural problems, the occurrence of pathologies in the properties and the relationships established with the neighbors.
