Abstract

After the dam failure in Mariana – MG, major impacts occurred in the three pillars: social, environmental and economic; directly reaching communities downstream that depended on the Doce river to obtain their source of subsistence and provide living conditions. The objective of this study is to carry out a socioeconomic and environmental analysis of the riverside population downstream of the Doce River after the Mariana-MG disaster, comparing some situations with more current data. The method used was a qualitative analysis through questionnaires, photographic records and analysis of the scientific expedition report of the Independent Environmental Impact Assessment Group Samarco/Rio Doce - GIAIA with the riverside residents of Mariana - MG on the Doce River and its mouth in Espírito Santo. Holy. Based on the answers acquired, it was noted that the accident mainly affected farmers and fishermen who depended on the water resource directly, making it necessary to invest in pumps and pipes to capture water from other locations. Despite this, many still do not know about the sanitary quality of the river today. Regarding the aid, not all people who received visits from Samarco obtained this benefit, and the method used for this choice is not understandable. Such, justice recently ordered the Foundation to renew indemnity to sinners and subsistence payment. Some of the symptoms manifested and after the occurrence of skin accidents and accidents.
