Abstract
This study evaluates the dynamics of vegetation and land cover of the Upper Paraná River floodplain (region of Puerto Rico - PR) between 1987 and 2007. Classifications using MAXVER and ISOSEG algorithms were used in scenes Landsat-5/TM of three distinct dates: 14/03/1987, 09/10/1999 and 22/04/2007. The results show an increase in the area of bare soil between the period of 1987 to 1999 due to human occupation. The area of bare soil observed in the image of april of 2007 reflects the flood that occurred in january and february of that year. The Kappa index and global accuracy 116 Bol. geogr., Maringá, v. 28, n. 1, p. 115-126, 2010 denote that the both methods produced similar results to the study area. The MAXVER classification presented greater efficiency for the general classification, and ISOSEG has been more efficient for the classification of wetlands.Downloads
