POLICY AGAINST PLAGIARISM AND RESEARCH MISCONDUCT

Moving forward with our tradition of excellence, we herein inform editorial improvements aimed at strengthening the integrity of articles published by this journal. In compliance with COPE’s guidelines (Committee on Publication Ethics), which seek to encourage the identification of plagiarism, misconduct, frauds and possible ethics violations, all subject to legal actions, we have set forth:

1. Authors must go to COPE’s website, http://publicationethics.org, which contains information for authors and editors on research ethics;

2. Before submission, authors must ensure that the following criteria are met:

- articles containing collected data or data analysis and interpretation from other publications must explicitly reference the latter;

- when composing articles containing a critical review of other authors’ intellectual content, said authors must be duly cited;

- all authors must meet the criteria for original work of authorship, and none of the researchers involved in the research must be omitted on the list of authors;

- the final approval of the article will be given by the editors and the editorial board.

3. To ensure that all criteria will be met, the following procedures will be carried out:

a) The editors will assess the manuscripts with the CrossCheck System right after submission. First, they will analyze the textual content of the scientific articles, seeking to identify plagiarism, duplicate submissions, manuscripts already published, and possible research frauds;

b) With the results, the editors and the editorial board will then decide whether the manuscript will be sent to review by peers, who will also provide their evaluations;

c) After acceptance and before publishing, the articles may be evaluated again.

NORMS FOR PRESENTATION OF ORIGINALS

To facilitate the consultants’ analysis work, texts sent for publishing:

Must be typed on Microsoft Word (current), in Times New Roman, font size 12. Block quotations and footnotes must be written in font size 10;

Must not exceed 25 standard pages (30 lines in 1.5 space with 70 characters). Syntheses and reviews must have a maximum of 05 standard pages;

Must have titles in Portuguese, English and Spanish;

May be presented in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French and Italian;

Must not include (under any circumstance) the name(s) of the author(s) and other references. There is a field intended for this information on the journal’s own digital platform.

Must include abstracts in Portuguese, English and Spanish, with a maximum of 100 words, followed by keywords in the three languages (maximum of 6 terms) that identify the content of the article;

Articles can have a maximum of three authors, and at least one of them must have a doctorate;

Attention: As of June 29, 2021, the journal DIÁLOGOS will no longer accept submissions from students in the Postgraduate Program in History at UEM and from professors in the History course at the same institution. Since January 2019, the minimum degree of Doctor is required for one of the authors of the articles. Doctoral and Master's students may submit reviews for evaluation.

All authors must have an ORCID and enter it when submitting the originals. An ORCID ID can be obtained at ORCID registry. You must accept the ORCID ID presentation standards and include the full URL (for instance: http://orcid.org/0000-0002-1825-0097). Note: The letter “s” in the ORCID “https” URL must be deleted because the system does not recognize it.

Attention: As of 2020, all manuscripts that compose dossiers and round tables must have their versions in English.

As for the text, requirements are:

For in-text citations, the ABNT-NBR-6023-2018 standard is recommended. The entry of authors in the references must be identical to that of the in-text citation. The author’s last name must be written only with the first letter capitalized, followed by year of publication of the literature used, as in the example: Martins (1995);

If the author’s name and the year come in parentheses, they must be separated by comma, in capital letters, as in the example: (DAEMON, 1974);

Quotations with up to three (3) lines will not be set off from the rest and must be in the same font as the text and between quotation marks. They must also contain the indication of the author’s last name in capital letters, followed by year of publication and consulted page, as in the example: (MARTINS, 1994, p. 10);

Quotations with more than three (3) lines must be presented in blocks and indented, with the left margin aligned with the start of the paragraph, and the right margin, with the text;

Use the same font as that of the text, but smaller (10), without quotation marks;

Charts, tables and figures must be numbered in Arabic numerals (with their respective legends), preferably included in the text;

Chart points and lines must not be colored; they must be clear and simplified to facilitate reduction;

Use only explanatory, automatically-numbered footnotes.

References, containing only the authors cited in the manuscript, must be presented in alphabetical order and at the end of the manuscript, according to the ABNT-NBR-6023-2018 standard.

The DOI of the articles, if any, must be indicated at the end of the reference. The Editorial Committee will not accept texts that do not comply with the norms set forth above and will have the final say on their publication. Published articles and the accuracy of bibliographical references are the authors’ sole responsibility. Editors are not to be held accountable for neither the text nor the concepts addressed by collaborators.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The article is original, has never been published and is not being reviewed for publishing by another journal; otherwise, justify this in “Comments to the Editor”.
  • Files for submission are in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF formats and do not exceed 2MB.
  • All internet page addresses (URLs) included in the text (e.g., http://www.ibict.br) are active and ready to click.
  • The text meets the style standards and bibliographical requirements described in Guidelines for Authors, in the “About the Journal” section.
  • The identification of manuscript authorship has been deleted from the file and from the Properties option on Word, thus ensuring the secrecy criterion of the journal, in the case of submission for peer review (e.g., articles), as per instructions available in Ensuring Blind Peer Review.
  • The text is in a space of 1.5; use a 12 point font; use italics instead of underlining (except for URL addresses); with figures and tables inserted in the text, not at the end.

Ensaios Visuais

Visual essays will always be part of a dossier, therefore, they must be submitted when there is a public call specifying the criteria for submission. It will be up to the dossier organizers to decide on acceptance and forwarding to peer reviews. It is up to the organizers to make the final decision on whether or not to publish the selected visual essays.
