Social representation of violence against Indigenous women in the films The Milk of Sorrow and Ixcanul Volcano
Abstract
One of the recurrent victims of violence are indigenous women of Latin American. The films The milk of sorrow (Peru, 2009) and Ixcanul: Volcano (Guatemala, 2015) explore social representations of violence against indigenous women. Using the content analysis method, the expressions of violence in the films are revealed. These women are subject to a triple condition of asymmetry: their gender condition, the racialisation of indigenous peoples and the precariousness and social exclusion of their locations, mediated by patriarchal and colonial relations of domination.
