Mulheres e abandono de menores em Curitiba: das imagens do progresso à construção coletiva de representações
Resumo
Este Artigo aborda questões correlatas ao abandono de menores, entre as quais, aquelas referentes às mulheres que, no momento da modernização da cidade de Curitiba, se obrigam a abandonar seus filhos menores. Essas mulheres abrem mão do pátrio poder sobre suas crianças, para que assim sejam protegidas pelo Estado e suas instituições, enquanto elas, as mães, buscam a inserção no mercado de trabalho. Confrontamos a situação das mulheres e o abandono de menores com as imagens do progresso na cidade de Curitiba na virada para o século XX. Palavras-chave Abstract. This article discusses issues of child abandonment especially those referring to the women that in the modernization turmoil of the city of Curitiba were forced to abandon their children. These women gave up their legal authority over their minor children handing them over to be protected by the state and governmental organizations while the mothers tried to join the workforce. Women’s plight and child abandonment are confronted with the images of progress in the city of Curitiba at the closing of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century.
