A VOZ PÓS-COLONIAL EM WIDE SARGASSO SEA DE JEAN RHYS
Resumen
Em 1966, Jean Rhys, escritora caribenha erradicada na Inglaterra, publica Wide Sargasso Sea. No romance, a escritora dá vida à personagem Bertha do clássico Jane Eyre (1847) da inglesa Charlotte Brontë. Exemplo da reescrita da literatura da metrópole, Wide Sargasso Sea é repleto de elementos que remetem o leitor à história da colonização caribenha, mostrando, no relacionamento entre os personagens, os efeitos da dominação européia. O objetivo desse trabalho é levantar características próprias da literatura pós-colonial em Wide Sargasso Sea, apontando que, mesmo quando a ex-colônia recebe voz através do texto literário no romance isso se dá evidenciando a falta de voz do povo colonizado. Abstract. In 1966 Jean Rhys, a Caribbean writer living in England, published Wide Sargasso Sea. The author gives life to the character Bertha of the classic Jane Eyre (1847) by Charlotte Brontë. An example of re-writing, Wide Sargasso Sea is full of items that lead the reader through the history of Caribbean colonization while showing European domination through the characters’ relationships. This research aims at analyzing the trends of post-colonial literature in Wide Sargasso Sea demonstrating that even when the ex-colony is given a voice in the text, the colonized people’s lack of voice is still evidenced.Descargas
