Abstract

A transição dos EUA à condição de potência global frequentemente nos conduz a atenção para o papel do país no cenário econômico que se desenrola após as duas guerras mundiais do século XX; porém o crescimento da economia norte-americana, em muito sentidos, é devedor de uma fase pretérita, momento que pode ser encarado como inaugural da projeção do país nos destinos econômicos das demais nações do mundo. Este artigo procura chamar a atenção para este instante: as décadas finais do século XIX e o início do XX, ocasião em que o avanço industrial norte-americano alcançou o poder europeu, sinalizando para novas relações comerciais e diplomáticas. Abstract. The condition of the US as a global power is usually attributed to economic developments occurring after the two World Wars of the twentieth century. However, the growth of the American economy can be more accurately traced to the nineteenth century, from which it arose as an influence on the economic and political destiny of other nations in the twentieth century. This article seeks to call attention to the impressive growth of the American economy in the final decades of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth.
