Juan Bautista Alberdi, a Guerra do Paraguai e os Revisionismos Históricos
Abstract
This article discusses the origins and developments of Historiographical Revisionist thinking concerning the Paraguayan War, highlighting the work of Argentine politician and writer Juan Bautista Alberdi as a key player in the genesis of this movement. Without devaluing the role of historical revisionists such as Juan O'Leary and Cecilio Baéz, we argue that, in the writings of Alberdi, we find the most well-defined genesis of a revisionist movement that would take on various argumentative political colors throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. We conclude that, by interpreting the Paraguayan War as a continuation of Argentina's intestine wars, Alberdi inaugurated an interpretive model that has been explored to the point of exhaustion, defining Paraguay as the victim of excessive aggression and a stronghold of the American cause.
