CONTRA O FANATISMO: ALGUMAS IDÉIAS DO PADRE VIEIRA
Resumo
A título de notas prévias acerca das idéias históricas e políticas do padre AntônioVieira, este artigo desenvolve algumas análises comparativas entre as suas concepções e as de outros autores da Época Moderna, como o moralista holandês Erasmo e o historiador e filósofo político francês Montesquieu, dentre outros. A análise ressalta o tema do fanatismo e da intolerância e algumas provas dadas pelo autor de História do Futuro em favor da tolerância e contra o zelo excessivo em matéria de religião. Em síntese, o propósito mais amplo da reflexão é realçar a figura de Vieira como um dos maiores nomes da tradição irenista, evidência que é ressaltada de forma esparsa ou residual por autores especializados em tais temáticas. Abstract. In the quality of preliminary notes regarding Father Vieira’s historical and political ideas, this article develops some comparative analyses between his conceptions and those of other authors from the Ancient Regime, such as the moralist Erasmus and the French historian and political philosopher Montesquieu, among others. The analysis points out the theme of fanaticism and intolerance, and proof is given by the author of História do Futuro in favor of tolerance and against the excessive zeal regarding religion. In summary, the broadest purpose of this reflection is to enhance Vieira’s figure as one of the greatest names in tolerance tradition, which is little emphasized by authors specialized in such themes.Downloads
