Abstract

The study of intersectoral relations allows to rank the sectors in terms of their capacity to disseminate information throughout the productive system. The objective of this article is to estimate the capacity of the sectors of the economy of Rio Grande do Sul to propagate technology and information through the intersectoral network. This would allow to direct resources for product and process research in key segments, serving as an important guide for policymakers. For this, the input-output matrix of Rio Grande do Sul for the year of 2019 is used as the secondary raw data base. The input-output technique is used together with the Miyazawa (1966, 1971) contributions to decompose the productive interrelations present in the inverse matrix of Leontief and to detect the most important activities of the economy. The ability of the sectors segmented at two different technological levels to disseminate information through the local productive system was examined. In this sense, dynamic sectors and propagators of technology would be those with the largest number of important coefficients. The results suggest that the low-tech segment presents a strong ability to the diffusion of ideas, knowledge and information in the local economy.
