Abstract

The following article has as its aim to discuss the Solidarity Economy by presenting it as an important alternative for the income generation and social inclusion that can benefit people who are out of the job market. This research will take into account the search for development of all society members in an equal basis.  The Solidarity Economy is a recent social factor and arrived in Brazil in the 1980`s, but it won strength by the middle 1990`s bringing forth old values, such as mutual help, responsibility, fairness and solidarity. Besides reviewing the prevalence of values such as solidarity and co-operation over egoism and competition, this article will firstly introduce a historical exposition of its origin and purposes, conception and objective, as well as its values and principles. Secondly, the insertion of the Solidarity Economy in Brazil will be reported together with the creation of the National Secretary of Solidarity Economy. We also approach the construction of the Solidarity Economy as an answer to the crisis generated by the exacerbated capitalism, involved by the expectation of what is and what should be the economy under a transforming view. Finally, we conclude about the relationship of the strong aspects of this “new economy” as an alternative for the income generation focused on the social inclusion and in the equality for general welfare.
