THE CHARACTERISTICS OF COUNTRY LIFE IN THE NORTH OF PARANÁ - 1960 to 1980

Abstract

The occupation of Parana resulted from expansion of three fronts: Traditional Paraná, Southwest Region and Northern Region. The colonization of the northern part of Paraná, specifically the New North, was made by the Company of Land North of Paraná. The company planned colonization in detail. The region has developed having coffee with main economic product, this activity has created a particular dynamic to life on the farm. This article seeks to characterize life in the countryside of northern Paraná State in the second half of the XX century, in particular between the decades 1960-1980, during which coffee cultivation predominated as the main economic activity of rural properties, and ensuring a specific dynamic to these spaces. The information in this article was obtained through reading and analysis of bibliographical material relating to the colonization of northern Paraná, and interviews with residents of the rural areas of northern Paraná season. Was also used information collected from the pioneers of northern Parana, and personal experiences of the author. The characteristics of life in rural areas during the period that were used in order to assemble a description of the main activities, habits and customs existing and charged at the time. In the period studied the small property was based on the dynamics of the rural complex. These changes were not immediate, since the characteristics of country life enabled the rural population resisted years after the end of the coffee cycle.
