LANDSCAPE AND GEOGRAPHY : A CONCEPTUAL REVIEW

Abstract
The objective of this study consists in the elaboration of a brief report on the available knowledge about the course of the landscape concept in the context of geographical science during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. To achieve this goal, it was carried out an analysis and interpretation of existing scientific literature, trying an evaluation critical level to approach the different meanings about the topic. Such analysis exercise revealed that the geographical concept built a relevant role at the heart of the evolutionary process of Geography and its different schools. In each development stage the landscape interpretation presented a visible explanatory depth, from investigations based basically on human works to researches related to the field of representations.Downloads
