A CULTURAL IDENTITY IN THE CONTEXT OF MAPPING SCHOOL
Abstract
In a globalized world, it is increasingly necessary to study the regional and local identities in order to promote the formation of active citizens in all spatial scales. In this context, we discuss the relationship between local identity and spatial representation from production of texts (written and image) of elementary school students in the city of Jaguariaíva, Paraná, Brazil. The production of the students are analyzed using the theoretical frameworks discussing memory, identity and cartographic representation. Cultural identities are treated as meaning production instance about the living spaces. The relations between formal education, especially the curriculum selected by school geography, and the knowledge of lived experience can contribute to the study of the references and spatial horizons of residents of urban and rural regions. This perspective is proposed as discussion that aims to contribute to the advancement of reflections on the relationship between school mapping and the production of sense of belonging to different locations.
