Abstract
Public investments and incentives in a city, in general, are the same of regional trend and, in some cases, it disregards the economic potential of the city, which has caused damage to the local economy, especially when you have only one activity that supports economy. Ipeúna (SP) is a city situated in the administrative region of Campinas, whose economic development is based in the secondary sector, so the government has been attracting, in recent years, industrial activities. However, the municipality has a strong natural potential for ecotourism, which is not being valued and has caused damage to others sectors. Thus, we can analyze the contradictions between tourist activities and industrial activities in the municipality of Ipeúna from understanding of the potential Ipeúna`s regional economic development and identification of its touristic potential. From the analysis of the different economic sectors, it was noted that the government, by focusing on the industrial sector, has been weakening the dynamism of the tertiary sector, since it reduces the centrality of tertiary sector.
