TRANSFORMATION OF THE URBAN LANDSCAPE IN CORNÉLIO PROCÓPIO (1920-2014)

Abstract

This study will identify some changes that have occurred  in the urban landscape of Cornélio  Procópio (PR) from 1920 of the last century until 2014. The town  originated along the railroad São Paulo- Paraná, located in the Norte Pioneiro region during the 1920s and 1930s  due to the flow of coffee production to the port of Santos city , the town  introduced in the early decades of the twentieth century significant growth.   Still, the second half of the last century the functions performed by Cornélio Procópio have been transformed, and now this town   considered  at its  beginning  as a transport town ,  prominently performs other activities of the tertiary sector.     Changes in the urban landscape will be pointed out in this analysis through the study area interpretation  with concepts and theories belonging to urban space and urban landscape.   The photographic record shall show the changes in some places in town that mainly appear in its main historical accounts of formation, another bibliographic source consulted.
