Abstract

This paper deals with an analysis of the design of urban poverty and the use of EU municipal territory of the Palmares / AL in the contemporary period, whose goal is to understand how the territory Palmares is being used in the context of urban poverty. Thus, it was used as methodological features a literature search, document and data collection through a socioeconomic and subjective questionnaire. It was understood that the poverty phenomenon in União dos Palmares, its intensification and direct influence in the current period are due to the unstructured urban sprawl and differentiated use of urban space, caused by the neglect of the state that does not invest in public policies for population, maintenance and equipping of the city, and also because of the normalizing capitalist system that regulates the economic life as it increases its indispensability, determines its use in geographic space and imposes the selectivity and fragmentation through intensification techniques in social fabric of that city. For these reasons, it is understood that, for this, it takes strong action of the municipal manager, namely: effective public policies that are designed for places, considering its entirety to improve the living conditions of the population Palmarina.
