Abstract

This article aims to provide a brief historical review of the factors that influenced the growth of plant production in the state of Paraná, Brazil. It also refers to the concepts of thematic cartography, graphic semiology and Neographic, so that it is possible for the reader to understand what is the purpose of this study: the vegetable production in Paraná state, through the use of a permutation matrix, developed by Jacques Bertin. Neographic is used as a graphical treatment of information in order to discover new information. With the use of Neographic, tables and graphs are redesigned, reconstructed by means of the manipulation of the data, until the information needed is revealed in a simplified form, with all the necessary relations within. The technique has the purpose of providing the operator with the steps: data-matrix-reduction-exceptions-discussion-communication, and to the reader, the synthesis of the grouped data analysis. With the use of the permutation matrix in the vegetable production of Paraná, it was possible to identify productions of small and large properties, as well as those that increased the most and those that focused on internal commercialization and exportation.
