THE GEOGRAPHICAL SPACE REPRESENTATION FOR THE BLIND
Abstract
This article was developed with the purpose of rethink the teaching and learning quality of Geography for the blind people in Francisco Beltrão (PR- Brazil). The research is result of part of the studies accomplished during the master's degree in Geography of the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná (UNIOESTE), campus Francisco Beltrão, between the years 2014 and 2015. The objective was to develop activities with a blind student, who attends the 8th year of elementary school II. The research process was carried out through an interview, and when using a tactile clipboard to represent how she located herself in the geographical space through the routes: home to school; front of the school to the classroom; in the classroom and home to the downtown of Francisco Beltrão, we identified that she didn’t located herself in the classroom. However, a representation of the classroom was constructed to mediate the student location understanding. The research results ratify that the limitations of the blind students can be overcome, since the interaction process of the subjects with the social environment be done, the domain of the cartographic language and with the use of tactile didactic resources.
