Abstract

The study has as main objective to undertake a methodological effort of exploratory character, in order to contribute to the discussions about the current dynamics experienced by the small municipalities of southeastern Brazil, from the data available from the Census of 2000 and 2010. It is considered that the variables related to demographic dynamics, especially with regard to internal migration behaviors may indicate the existence of new economic, social and cultural trends in these localities. In this paper, presents a brief theoretical discussion about the small towns and a methodological approach based on four categories resulting from the correlation between migratory balances and growth rates of small municipalities in the Southeast. It is expected that such categories can enhance the understanding of the dynamics in analysis.
