PARTICULARITIES OF THE URBAN EXPANSION OF VIÇOSA, MG: A COLLEGE TOWN

Abstract

The small city of Minas Gerais, which is outstanding in the region due to its university dynamics, Viçosa has been presenting an accelerated process of urban growth mainly due to the expansion of the Federal University of Viçosa through the Reuni program, as well as the creation of private colleges. The new demands have impacted in the real estate market of the city and caused changes in the urban regulation and in the city landscape. This paper aims to present the results achieved during the research project started in 2011 and still in progress, whose objective is to understand the particularities present in the production and growth process of the urban space of Viçosa and to analyze the transformations that are occurring in the configuration of the urban expansion areas in the city.
