Abstract

In the current context of the school environment, the teaching process presents a series of challenges that result from the different profile of students arriving at school, their greater connection to the internet, their disinterest in classes. Internet access is not always possible due to the condition of schools, so the textbook is highlighted because it is a widely accessible resource. The work sought to identify the relevance of the textbook in the teaching of geography, and for the development of the research were conducted theoretical surveys about the textbook, as a methodological resource of teaching of geography, and its function in the school environment. It was observed that the textbook is an important methodological instrument for the teaching of geography, considering that other resources, such as geotechnologies, may become unviable, depending on the social reality in which the school is inserted, for example, lack of internet in educational institutions.
